Robert Beachler – Metz Mortuary

    Robert L. Beachler, age 86, of York, NE, died Monday, May 7, 2012, at York.  He was born March 14, 1926 at Garden City, KS to LeRoy and Josephine (Priefert) Beachler.  Robert served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII.  He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Rohlfing on September 4, 1949 at Fairbury, NE. 
    Robert worked for Nelson Motors for many years.  During the construction of the current York High School, he was the Clerk of the Works.  Once the building was completed, he served as the maintenance supervisor.  Robert was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York.  He enjoyed golfing and fishing, computers and playing Sudoku.  He also had a knack for “fixing” things.  He was a member of the York Elk’s Club and the American Legion.
    As Betty’s health declined Robert devoted his life to her care, first at their home and then at the Hearthstone where she still resides
    Left to cherish his memory is his wife Betty of York; daughters, Rebecca and husband Larry Mertens of York and Barb and husband Alan Tietmeyer of Bull Shoals, AR; grandchildren, Brandon Brown of York, Denise and husband Darren Sudbeck of Hebron, NE, Brent Robert Brown and wife Annie of Henderson, NE, Brandi Mertens of Lincoln, NE, Jessica and husband Matt Ankerson of Lincoln, Andrea and husband Brian Kramer of Highland Park, IL, and Tamra and husband Dave Putensen of Genesee, ID.  Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren and a niece, Jan Taylor of York.  Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, one sister, and step-father Dave Lohrengel.
    Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating.  Following services Robert will be cremated with private inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery, York, NE, at a later date. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Metz Mortuary, with the family greeting friends from 7-8:30 p.m.  Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
