Steven was a mechanic in the Army and served in Iraq and Kuwait during Desert Storm. He was highly decorated being awarded four accommodations medals, two meritorious medals, six over seas medals, six good conduct medals, and the Army Mechanic Medal. He was also awarded four safety awards. He was an expert fire with an M-16, and a sharpshooter with an M-60 and M203 grenade launcher. He was a refueler during the Gulf War and served his country with four tours in Korea, one tour in Germany, one tour in Kuwait, and one tour in Iraq. He was a scuba diver and loved animals and Star Trek.
He is survived by his brothers Jimmy Hunter, Norman Hunter, Ray (Rosella) Hunter and his sister Barbara Munn, all of Chicago, Illinois.
He is also survived by his ex-wife, Dr. Su Hunter of Warrensville, North Carolina, several nieces and nephews and his cat Panther.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ronald, Donald, Dave and Lee, and his brother-in-law Robert Munn.
Funeral services are scheduled for 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in McCool Junction, NE with military honors, and the Reverend Jim Germer officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial with be at The Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE at a later date. Memorials may be directed to York Adopt-A-Pet.
