    Shirley A. Kroeker, age 89 of York, NE, went peacefully to her Father’s home on March 26, 2014, in York.  She was born January 3, 1925 in rural York County to Clinton and Jessie Bell (Barr) Tucker.  She was educated in rural York County.  At the age of 10 she and the family moved to York.  She graduated from York High School in 1942.

    Shirley worked from 1943-1946 for the Union Pacific Railroad in Utah and Wyoming as a station attendant and telegrapher.  She returned to York after WWII and worked at Hesteds and Middle Brooks as a sales clerk and J.M. McDonalds where she was a clothing buyer.

    She was united in marriage to Chester E. Kroeker on October 26, 1947 at her mother’s home in York.  They lived in Milford, Seward and Grand Island and then moved to Columbus, NE.  She was employed at Irene’s Shop and Sowder’s Public Accountant as a tax preparer. She then worked at Wilbur Sharp CPA in Columbus.

    Upon Chester’s death in 1960, she remained active in the Columbus Women’s chamber of Commerce, PTA, and the Federated Church.  In 1976, she returned to York to care for her sister, Lila Tucker.  She was then employed at First Federal Savings and Loan until her retirement in 1990.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in York.

    She is survived by her sons, Jerry (Lori) Kroeker of Columbus, NE and Rodney (Kathy) Kroeker of Columbus; grandchildren, Jay (Sandi) Kroeker of Plano, TX, Jonathan (Michelle) Kroeker of Anchorage, Alaska, and Ann (Rich) Winter of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Emily Winter and Ethan Becker of Columbus and Josh and Illana Kroeker of Anchorage; sister Marybelle Hall of Kearney, AZ; brother-in-law Carl Kroeker and special friend of Pella IA.  Shirley is also survived by her caregiver Pat Gocke Smith of York and many nieces, nephews and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Lila Tucker and brother-in-law David Hall.

    Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, March 31, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in York.  Visitation will be from 1-9 Saturday and Sunday at the mortuary.  Shirley will be cremated following the service and inurnment will be at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the York Relay for Life, American Cancer Society or the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
