    Sterling M. Miller, 96, of York, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 at York.

    He was born May 10, 1918 near Unadilla, to Melvin and Mamie (Swanson) Miller.

    On June 25, 1936 he was married to Velma M. McBride in Iowa. Velma preceded him in death in October of 2005.

    Sterling was a self-employed electrician and plant engineer at York Packing Company. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York and the York Elk’s Club. Sterling enjoyed woodcarving and his beloved Basset Hounds.

    Left to cherish his memory are five sons, Larry (Kathleen) Miller of Burwell, Jerry (Linda) Miller of Espanola, N.M., Tom (Carole) Miller of York, Bill (Gail) Miller of Lincoln and John Miller of York; two daughters, Mary Jane Logan of Sawyer, Okla., and Candy Gocke of Lincoln; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

    Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife and brother, Charles.

    As per his wishes, Sterling has been cremated with no viewing, visitation or services. Memorials may be directed to Elk’s National Foundation or the Pride Pack Program. ​
