Susie R. Buller – Metz Mortuary

    Susie R. Buller
Susie R. (Janzen) Buller was born Jan. 21, 1928 at Lehigh, Kan., the 13th of 16 children born to Peter C. and Susie G. (Regier) Janzen. She passed away on April 22, 2014 at Henderson Care Center in Henderson.

Susie and John B. Buller met at the wedding of Ruben and Agnes Regier. John was a cousin to Ruben and Susie was a niece of Agnes. They married on March 17, 1946 at Springfield Church in Lehigh, Kan. and made their home in York County a couple of miles from John’s parents.

Ground was later purchased near Lushton and a farm was created. To this family were born Paul, John Larry, Lois, Rachel and Nancy. Susie and John were lifelong members of Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson.

Some of Susie’s joys were raising chickens and selling eggs and fryers, sewing clothes from flour sacks, being a 4-H leader for the older daughters and gardening which included planting, hoeing, harvesting, canning, drying and eating the produce.
She especially enjoyed the strawberries. Susie was always busy cooking, cleaning and caring for her family. In her later years, she discovered quilts and piecework, crocheting, creating many pieces for her children, grandchildren, plus family and friends.

John, Susie and Nancy moved from the farm and into Henderson in 1980. Trips to Texas and Arizona turned into winters in Texas. As hard as the packing was, for more than 25 years, the weather, friends and fruit were always worth the effort. Numerous other trips to visit family and friends occurred through these years to include all 50 states and overseas to Europe and South America.

The final move was to Prairie Gardens (independent care) in Henderson which came in the year 2000. Susie fondly referred to it as her shoebox because it was hard to squeeze in so many years of memories and busyness.

Following John’s passing in 2007, the trips ceased and winter weather gave Susie fond memories of her Texas friends. Health issues created a need to move to the Care Center in 2009. Visits from family and friends were enjoyed immensely, but she always worried about traveling weather.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandchildren, Christopher and Casey Wren; parents-in-law; thirteen siblings and many other family and friends.

Remaining are her children, Paul and Linda Buller of Wichita, Kan., John Larry Buller of Grand Island, Lois and Larry Roberts of Aurora, Rachel and John Crumly of Hartington and Nancy and Jay Wren of Grand Island.

Grandchildren include, Marci and Todd Ochsner, Tim and Rachel Buller, Tom and Jennifer Buller, Lindsay and Chris Blevins, Dennis and Candace Roberts, Elizabeth and Bob Bradley, J. Preston Crumly, David and Rachael Roberts, Jared Crumly and Sarah Clague, R.J. Wren, Susanna Wren, Jacob Wren and Micah Wren.
