Sylvia Anna Whitmore – Metz Mortuary

Sylvia Anna Whitmore, age 100 of York, NE died Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at York.  She was born November 10, 1913 to Paul W. and Louise A. (Pieper) Bulgrin at Beaver Township, Waco, NE.  On May 9, 1937, Sylvia was united in marriage to Robert H. Mozer at St. John Lutheran Church, Waco. She was later married to Leo B. Whitmore at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, York on September 3, 1966. 

Sylvia had worked for the gas company for 25 years and also Metz Mortuary for over 30 years.  She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she served with the LWML and Hope Mission Circle.  She was also a 4-H leader for over 30 years.

Sylvia is survived by two daughters: Marion (Mozer) and husband Richard Theobald of Geneva, NE and Lois (Mozer) Hoeft of York; stepchildren Carol (Alan) Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD and Robert (Kaye) Whitmore of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Scott (Nancy) Theobald of Omaha, NE, Kent (Rose) Theobald of Fairmont, NE; Karla (Stuart) Hoff of Lincoln, NE, Jean (Kevin) Edwards of Omaha, NE, and Nancy Davis of Phoenix, AZ; step grandchildren: Greg (Meg) Johnson, Matt (Mel) Johnson, and Jill (Pat) Kirby all of Sioux Falls, SD; and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, sister and brother-in-law Estella (Gus) Stuhr, brother and sister-in-law Edgar (Esther) Bulgrin; sister and brother-in-law Irma (Erich) Hoffschneider; and son-in-law Maynard “Noot” Hoeft.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Mike Neidow officiating. Burial will be held at 5:00 pm at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Waco.  Visitation will be held Saturday from 1pm-9 pm with family greeting friends that evening from 5pm-7pm.  Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, York County 4-H, or to the family for later designation.
