She was born Feb. 20, 1927 to Fred and Helena (Rahrs) Reetz. She was baptized on March 13, 1927 and confirmed on March 17, 1940 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hampton. She graduated from Bradshaw High School on May 16, 1945. On Feb. 8, 1948 she was united in marriage to Willis F. Maronde at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Willis and Velma lived on a farm near Benedict until the death of Willis in 1977. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in York. Velma enjoyed sports, spending time with family, and playing cards.
She is survived by her sons, Roger of Omaha and Steven (Gail) of Benedict; grandchildren, Christopher (Bethany) of Lincoln, Brian (Molly) of Clearwater and Jeffrey (Brooke) of St. Joseph, Mo.; great-granddaughters, Samantha of Lincoln and Emma of Clearwater.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Lila Weiss; infant brother and brothers, Lawrence, Norman and Elton.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church in York. Burial will be in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 – 9 p.m. Saturday and from 1 – 9 p.m. on Sunday. Family will greet friends from 6:30 – 8 p.m. on Sunday.
