On February 8, 1948 Vera was married to Harold H. Blum at Cordova, NE. Vera worked for J.C. Penneys, Hesteds and was a longtime cook at Benedict Public Schools as well as worked alongside her husband on the family farm. Vera also owned and operated the York Café for a while with her husband. She was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York where she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her son Kevin (Jeanne) Blum of Benedict and her daughter Susan (Donald) Korte of Columbus, NE. Her grandchildren include; Jason Blum, Angie (Bo) Heidtbrink, Trevor Korte, Stephanie Blum, Andrew Korte and Erin Blum. Also surviving are two brothers; Gerald (Jane) Lutz of Fairmont, NE and Bernard (Velma) Lutz of Cordova and one sister, Elaine Lutz of Fairmont. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters; Ruth Lutz, Anne Lutz and Velma Selvig.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Mike Neidow officiating. Burial will be in the Waco Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Visitation begins after 5:00 pm Tuesday at the mortuary.
