He was born June 6, 1927 in York County. He graduated from Benedict High School in 1944.
Wilbur worked at the Fairmont Air Base as a messenger, delivering official messages. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army Air Corps in the Philippine Islands. He worked as a nursing assistant at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Lincoln for 35 years until retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the American Legion, Bolton Post #19, the National Rifle Association, the National Wild Life Association, the Wilderness Society, the Sierra Club, and the National Association of Railroad Passengers. He was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of McCool Junction.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Mary Belle Johnson. He is survived by several cousins and special friends, Randy and Deb Conard of York.
Memorial graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in York at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2013. No viewing or visitation. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church of McCool Junction or the American Cancer Society.
